Much anticipated Maternity shots

We (Carolyn and I) are rapidly approaching having our world rocked by the birth of our two boys. Yesterday my wife was 33 weeks pregnant. Today we met with our high risk specialist and he very sincerely said that after Carolyn went into labor at 25 weeks, nobody thought they would be able to delay birth this long. Now it is looking like the boys will be delivered sometime in the middle of January.

In the meantime, we took some time last weekend and took some maternity shots. We were limited on locations because she is on bed-rest, so I did what I could to dress up our unfinished basement and vary its appearance as much as I could.

Carolyn is doing well and getting bigger. As of today the boys are 3 lbs. 13 oz and 3 lbs. 13 1/2 oz. the fact they are so close in size is a good thing and implies good health.

The Pack is Back!

I was born and raised just north of Los Angeles in a town called Newhall. Even though I was less than an hour form downtown (depending on traffic) I was never a Raiders fan, didn't root for the LA Rams, was never tempted wear a lightning bolt of the San Diego Chargers and have too much self-respect to be associated with the 49ers. I was born and raised a Green Bay Packers fan. My dad has always been a Packers fan and I followed in his footsteps. Even if you are not a Packers fan, but are a fan of football, or even great American success stories, the history of the Packers is rich.

A few years ago for my dad's birthday my mom surprised my dad with tickets for both my parents, my wife and I to a game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. It was a great trip with many great adventures on the way.

This year for Christmas I couldn't swing tickets to Lambeau, but thanks to my father-in-law, i was able to purchase 2 tickets for my dad and I to the Rams v Packers game in St. Louis. It was a great game and Brett Favre showed up in all his glory, he even set the new all time passing yards record during the game.

St. Louis Photographers get together

I love the St. Louis photographic community. All of the photographers I have met here in town have been great. They are helpful, willing to share and give of themselves, and welcoming to new photogs. The shots below are form the Christmas party we recently held at Studio Altius in Kirkwood. Below is a self portrait of Stephanie as well as a shot of Stephanie posing Jen Henneberry with Kelly Park in the background.

Many more were there, but I don't have everyone's websites, email me or leave your site in the comments. I look forward to our monthly get togethers. Thanks again to Stephanie for pulling it all together and David with Studio Altius for letting us use the studio.

She's still pregnant!

I have had a request (ahem - E-Dub) to give more updates on Carolyn. (No worries, just giving you a hard time. :) )

I forget that just because I am in the middle of this tornado of life, that not everyone suddenly through some force of osmosis knows all that is going on here at Camp Cook. I am trying to find a balance of Photography (after all this was initially set up as a Blog for my business), insight into my life and personality, and a way of updating our family and friends across the country as to the progress Carolyn is making while in the third trimester with twin boys.

Tomorrow we have a pair of Dr. appointments and get to see the boys on the sonogram again. We are rapidly approaching the date we get to meet the boys. Carolyn is pre-registered at the hospital and we will be packing our overnight bags for the hospital soon, after-all, today she is 30 weeks pregnant

I will be updating the blog with what the Doctors say in the coming days so please check back and feel free to leave a comment or two.

A few more of this cutie!

This girl has personality in excess. She would run up to me and say, "Let's play tag!" smack my leg and run away laughing. As I turned toward her she would scream and run into her dad's arms. Twice as quickly as she yelled "Let's play!" she would squeal, "I'm not playing this anymore!"

As soon as I turned away, she would leap back up and smack my leg and say, "You're it!" So much fun.

Agriculture

I have been going through a bunch of my agriculture and landscape collections and thought I would share a few. They are from a variety of places, Illinois, South of Columbia-Missouri, Santa Rosa- California, and the Napa Valley. I wanted to add a bit of emotion to them and hopefully cause the viewer to see agriculture in a way other than the typical Bought-In-The-Mall-Calendar type of way.

~Enjoy!

Invisible Thunder!

There is an ad on TV (Nextel I think) about a movie sequel being "Green lit". I have seen the ad a million times, but just now noticed a detail. In the background in the last shot of the ad, they are in a producer's office and one of the fictitious movie posters on the wall is for "Invisible Thunder". That title cracks me up. If you don't get it, just think about it a bit, or leave me a comment. :)

Monday Low-down

Another great news Dr. Visit...Carolyn has shown marked improvement since Friday and the kiddos are no onger in danger of a declining amniotic fluid level. All seems to be better and the boys can continue hibernating!

Some time with some friends

We were able to spend some time today with some friends we don't see nearly enough. I remember when their first daughter was born, and now she is a big sister! They are a great support and always 'real'.

I included some of the photos.

We Have Another Name!

We had a name for Baby A right off the bat, but Baby B....a bit more challenging. Friends and family alike seem to be surprised we didn't have both names, but now, we think, we have both names. We are still trying them out, but we are pretty certain we settled on them.

The tough part is we are not telling anyone the names until the boys are born.

Carolyn Update

We are at the point in her pregnancy that it seems there is no such thing as a routine Doctor appointment. Any Appointment could result in a trip to the hospital and possible delivery of the boys.

That is precisely what happened last Friday. The Dr. did a routine sonogram and in his words" hit a bit of a Panic button." Carolyn's amniotic fluid was low, it is a side effect of one of the meds, and he ordered a rush visit to the hospital for a more thorough look. There was a strong chance Carolyn would have needed to spend the night at the hospital receiving IV fluids. Fortunately we didn't have to go down that avenue. They released Carolyn with strict orders to "drink water every 5 seconds."

Regardless, it was a bit of a scare. While we were talking with the Doctor, he uttered a phrase that caught my attention. He said, "You are 29 weeks and 1 day, if we had to deliver today, it would be OK, but we're not going to be delivering today, but if we had to, we could." As much as I want to meet my two sons, I don't want to meet them yet. They still need a few more weeks to grow stronger.

The other part of the update is Carolyn's T-Pump. This is a good news/bad news situation. Good news, Carolyn is no longer taking oral meds every 6 hours (yes, every 6 hours. She had an alarm set for 1 AM for her meds). Bad news (more like bummer news) is that Carolyn now has a catheter in her leg. It is like an IV, but it is not into a vein, it is sub-Q (just under the skin) and gives her continuous medication to control the contractions. She changes the location every 5 days and has to learn how to shower with a very expensive piece of medical electronics with her. She also has to sleep with it which makes rolling over in bed tough. The other difficult part of the new med is t gives Carolyn the shakes. Her hands tremble a bit and this frustrates her, as it would me too. She is handling it well, but is definitely looking forward to being T-Pump free. Of course being free of the meds will mean the boys have been born, then its a whole new ball game.

Probably my favorite shot of the Turkey Bowl, I love how the groups parted for Marty to make his move.
2007 Turkey Bowl

Every year on the Saturday following Thanksgiving the Men's ministry of my church, CPC, hosts its' Turkey Bowl touch football game. Knowing my limits, I volunteer to photograph it, and save myself the inevitable injury. I included a few of the photographs of the day's games. There was also boys game that was the most entertaining of the games, but I'll save those photos for once the parents have seen the images. Enjoy. ~Matt

I love things that work...correctly

I know this is a fairly obvious statement most of us would agree with. I decided a couple years ago, when I didn't have much in the way of income, I would rather save my money and do without until I could afford the right solution, than to throw away my money on a half-way solution.

Why do I bring this up now? We have been using my vacuum from my college days in our house. We have known for awhile now its days were numbered, but we finally grew tired of the smell of burning rubber, and the dust it recycled back into the air. We tolerated this because when we purchased our next vacuum, we wanted to make sure it was a good one, and would last for years to come.

Enter our new vacuum...Dyson. This machine is amazing. It was like we never really vacuumed, and we keep a clean house!

I am drawn to images and textures invoking thoughts of the old west. I grew up on classic Randolph Scott and John Wayne Westerns and am still drawn to those images. This Squire lock is from Faust Park
